Give 'em room

Wednesday night was the Downey Bicycle Coalition's first Ice Cream Social Ride of the summer. It was advertised as a "short 9mi ride...on an EASY-paced, beach cruiser-friendly loop through Downey with a stop at ColdStone Creamery and nearby U-Swirl Frozen Yogurt."

California law requires drivers to stay at least three feet away from cyclists while passing.  I like the bright-colored shirt that is sure to serve as a reminder to drivers who pass this group tonight.

I also like the idea of rewarding myself to  ice cream during a ride.

Ride and Stride 2017

Today was the Downey Ride and Stride event. This is one of several check-in locations, where kids had fun signing in with various levels of artwork, from scribbles to flowers.

Ride and Stride provides almost 5 miles of car-free streets, where kids of all ages can walk or ride (any non-motorized form of transportation, including scooters, bicycles, wheelchairs, skateboards, wagons, strollers, rollerblades, and more).

Along the way, there were lots of stops with music, games, vendors, food, a petting zoo, and lots more.
