Actress Mrudula Murali Exclusive Interview
A tete-a-a with the young fashionista Mrudula Murali
She might have only done a few films, but actress Mrudula Murali has managed to impress the fashion world with her quirky sense of style through her public appearances. Her character as lsha in the movie ' Ayal Nianalla directed by actor Vineeth Kumar opposite Fahadh Fasil was noted for her appearance and truthful portrayal of the role. The actress truthful who is two films old in Kollywood ('Nagaraia Cholan MA,MLA and 'Chikkikku Sikkikichu'), incorporates the latest trends in her own inimitable style like a dream. Her younger brother Midhun Murali is also an actor who has acted in a National award winning film ' Vazhakku Enn 18/9 '. Though debuted in 2009 film Red chillies her career is moving in a slow pace as studies kept her busy and she loves to do films that excites the actor in her. Excerpts from a conversation with the chirpy actress.

you seem to have a pretty good fashion sense. Who is your inspiration to be fashionable?

Fashion is in my genes. I got this tasre from my mother who has a great liking on fabrics and likes to dress up according to the occasion. I was always interested in knowing about the current trends and latest updates in fashion through fashion magazines and online Websites. To an extent, my appearance is an experiment within my limitations to try out different styles. I am updated about the runaway trends and try to incorporate those trends in my personal style in my own way. You can't blindly adapt a western style here because many things should be taken care of.

Being stylish is subjective, it depends upon each individual. More than being stylish , I try to look upon being presentable. Dressing is your personal comfort but you must also be conscious of the crowd . I strongly believe that you should keep in mind the nature of society and people who see it before getting into any dress.

Outfits that I shine in....
Saree
Saree is not just a traditional outfit, you can wear it even in a sexy way. You can drape, alter and style saree in many possible ways . Saree is perfect for an authentic traditional function as well as for a party. Mostly I get complemented for my appearances in Saree and it gives me confidence to be in that outfit. Silk, Georgette, Chiffon ..any material you wear saree should be simple and light weight to carry it off easily.

Casuals
Its easy to get into casuals like denims and top , they provide the factor of comfort ability. Ripped or denims with patches are runaway trends that change according to seasons. Blue denims are always standard and will stay ahead of changing trends. Blue denims can be paired with white tops and with high waisted denims, cropped tops are suitable.

Maxi dresses
One piece long dresses or maxi dresses are my favourite considering the fact that they are an easy wear.

Long skirts and tops
Long skirts and tops have both an ethnic and modern look. My wardrobe has a collection of variety designs of skirts like flare cut, straight cut, kalamkari or mini skirts. A long skirt can be teamed up with simple tops, a stole can add that glamour element to it.

Kurthi's or Salwars
More than salwars I prefer Kurthis keeping in mind the discomfort in carrying dupattas. Even if I am out for shopping or for a wedding, salwars can serve the purpose of that particular occasion.

compared to other industries, actresses here have less to do and experiment with fashion as they are normally restricted to sarees and salwars. Do you agree?
According to my point of view, its not the fashion of actresses, its the characters that are restricted Within certain limits. An actor should Wear costumes that suit the particular character he/ she portrays. There is no point in wearing a bikini if the character is supposed to wear a saree. And criticisms arise when actresses do glamorous roles, but the contradiction is they only criticise when it happens in our industry and the same people will applaud when they see the same in other languages. People are there to criticize and comment in whatever we do and whatever we wear. Yes , we do movies to entertain the audience but doesn't grant them freedom to criticize our actions. May be the so called Cultural constraints' as people refer to the reason of their actions make them do that.
In my case, I may do a glamorous role if the script demands, it depends. Limiting the role with just a glamorous tag line is not
my cup of tea. Unless the role is convincing and it has its own importance in the movie I won't take up the role for merely adding the glamour element.

Fashion's golden rules
Keep in mind the crowd you are going in to. There is no point in wearing a world wide recognised fashion trend in a rural area or among the people who are not much aware about fashion.
Make yourself comfortable in what you
wear, otherwise you will get conscious of your dress.
If you are comfortable and confident that you can carry off that dress well then, obviously you will have the confidence.
If you are very confident in what you wear, don't get affected by bad comments .
Always have a smiling face and that makes a perfect appearance.

Share your experience working in the movie ' Ayal Nianalla' and about the appearance of your character Isha?
Director of the movie, Vineeth Kumar saw my photos from a wedding function I had attended and found me similar to the character Isha.
He was the 'master brain' behind the appearance of my character ' Isha' in the movie. He had a clear idea about how she looks like , her hair style and even about the minute details of her appearance. He discussed with costume designer Sameera Saneesh and gave her instructions about the costumes and accessories. The accessories I am seen wearing in that movie were collected by myself and Sameera Chechi from different places including the shooting location, Bhuj. Obviously I had given my inputs and since I was playing a gullu, a half malayalee and half Gujarati, the malayalee touch to the character the way dupatta was stripped and the long bindi was my suggestion.

My favourite outfit from the movie is a blue dress with heavy accessories that was used in the song sequence ' Neelavanmukile which won me a lot of appreciation and also a scene doing pooia. Actually the nose ring I am spOtting in that sequence was supposed to be worn through out the shooting, since I felt that it won't suit me we used it for that particular song alone to make it unique.
Accessories that add to my look
Shoes and Handbags
I am a little brand conscious for bags and shoes just because of the quality and durability that brand offers. Footwear always stands top in my shopping list and I have a huge collection of footwear at home. Collecti g footwear is my fashion fetish. If it is the case of comfortability, flats are the best but W'edges and platforms , silhouettes, also fmd a place in my collection and I use them
according to the occasion. If I am out to a shopping mall flats are the best as they can stand up with the slippery surface there.

Nose studs or rings
Nose studs are my perfect companion and I usually don't step out without wearing that. When I pierced nose, people said that the look won't suit with modern outfits but till now I haven't felt that. I own a pretty good collection of nose studs including a 4 cent diamond with four stones, a one with seven diamonds and also 1.5 cent diamond stud, in which I am usually seen in and prefer to wear that in all functions.
Finger rings
Finger rings is a must when I am out. Silver is my favourite metal and in that accessories with marcasite stones holds a special place.
Ear rings
My choice of ear rings completely depends on the dress that I wear. With saree and salwars the easiest way to make an eloquent style statement is with big chunky ear rings or ear drops. A dress can stay unique with a Statement accessory and now the latest trend ear cuffs can be a statement jewellery without ear rings or not accessoring much.
Neck wear
Simple long chains are my neck wear favourites. I don't freak out for purchasing gold accessories as I don't think it suits me, instead I look in for Other materials like silver. Other than the nose studs I usually use, I don't wear any gold unless the case is a traditional occasion where my outfit suits that gold accessory.
For an actress it is important to be in shape and look pleasing when she step out. Spill the beans behind your fitness and beauty
There is no other capsules than healthy eating and workouts to be in shape. Since I was trained in dancing from childhood, dancing is more than a fitness regimen for me. It is a complete exercise and you can stay in shape through practicing dance continuously. Even though now I don't get enough time to attend my classes, I do practising whenever I have time and inclination.
I am a vegetarian and total foodie who like to experiment and try out different cuisine. My diet plan follows the mantra of eat anything you like and drink a lot of water. Basically I don't have a chocolate craving as I don't have a sweet teeth. But spicy foods makes my mouth watery.
Apart from the basic things, my knowledge on cooking is limited and the food I am specialised in cooking is pasta. I started
cooking pasta since my mother don't cook it and gradually turned out to be my 'master piece item. My friends, especially actress Bhavana is the one who compliments me most for my cooking and when ever we catch up at my home she makes me cook pasta for her.
My mother insists me on taking care of my skin as I am a lazy fellow in such cases. Till now I haven't done facial or those kind of
stuffs going to a parlour as [am blessed with a good skin lam pretty scared of touching my skin .
Fitness and beauty secrets...
Eat healthy and workout there is no shortcut to fitness other than that
My timess regimen includes workouts that include swimming, yoga, walking, gymming and dance.
Basic things such as waxing and threading are those things that are part of my beauty regimen.
Once in two or three months I do scrubbing, clean up and use a good natural face pack at home .
Tress care is done through hair spa, hot oil massage and henna.
