Description :
The fourth edition of this book A Textbook of Strength of Materials contains twenty five chapters. This edition has been thoroughly revised and made up-to-date. A large number of numerical problems from different B.E. degree examinations have been added with solution at proper places. At the end of each chapter, highlights, theoretical questions and many unsolved numerical problems with answers have been given for the students to practice them. Three advanced topics--stresses due to rotation in thin and thick cylinders, bending of curved bars and theories of failures of the materials have also been added. These chapters have been written in such a simple and easy-to-follow language that even an average student can understand them easily by self-study. A large number of Objective Type Multiple Choice Questions, asked in the most of the competitive examinations, have been incorporated in this edition with answers and explanations to make this edition more useful for competitive examinations.

Description :
Strength of Materials provides a comprehensive overview of the latest theory of strength of materials. The unified theory presented in this book is developed around three concepts: Hooke's Law, Equilibrium Equations, and Compatibility conditions. The first two of these methods have been fully understood, but clearly are indirect methods with limitations. Through research, the authors have come to understand compatibility conditions, which, until now, had remained in an immature state of development. This method, the Integrated Force Method (IFM) couples equilibrium and compatibility conditions to determine forces directly. The combination of these methods allows engineering students from a variety of disciplines to comprehend and compare the attributes of each. The concept that IFM strength of materials theory is problem independent, and can be easily generalized for solving difficult problems in linear, nonlinear, and dynamic regimes is focused upon. Discussion of the theory is limited to simple linear analysis problems suitable for an undergraduate course in strength of materials. To support the teaching application of the book there are problems and an instructor's manual.

Review :
"A very straightforward, comprehensive, self-contained book, which is well illustrated by a gererous selection of high quality figures. 'Strength in Materials' is an excellent undergratuate engineering teaching text that will also prove useful to practising engineers" --Professor K L Edwards, University of Derby, MATERIALS WORLD

"As an excellent text book, the basic concepts, methods and skills are clearly stated. Both the students and experienced engineers will benefit a lot from the close linkage of concepts resulted from the unified theory and practical examples. This Book is an excellent engineering teaching textbook for undergraduates. The quality of the Book is exceptional." --Professor REN, Wenmin, Tsinghua University

This is a thorough revision of the definitive, classic text for any level course on refrigeration, refrigeration and air conditioning, and environmental control in buildings. It is an equipment-oriented textbook that applies theoretical results of engineering theories to refrigeration and air conditioning engineering problems. This enables the student to understand both common and uncommon problems in designing, selecting and applying air conditioning and refrigeration components and systems. The material has been updated to apply to the new Environmental Protection Agency requirements and to the new technology developed in response to the energy crisis. New to this edition is a discussion of solar energy; coverage of the basic principles of acoustics and noise control (in relation to air conditioning systems), fans and ducts, pumps and piping, and air conditioning units. While all the material in the text can be understood and executed without computers, alternate computer solutions are shown for system simulation. SI units are used throughout.

Description :
The third edition of Engineering Mechanics: Statics written by nationally regarded authors Andrew Pytel and Jaan Kiusalaas, provides students with solid coverage of material without the overload of extraneous detail. The extensive teaching experience of the authorship team provides first-hand knowledge of the learning skill levels of today's student which is reflected in the text through the pedagogy and the tying together of real world problems and examples with the fundamentals of Engineering Mechanics. Designed to teach students how to effectively analyze problems before plugging numbers into formulas, students benefit tremendously as they encounter real life problems that may not always fit into standard formulas. This book was designed with a rich, concise, two-color presentation and has a stand alone Study Guide which includes further problems, examples, and case studies.

Review :
It is nicely written. Concise and clear. It is well known that students only look at equations and examples. Lots of writing is not helpful. They write just enough to explain the issues. Good detailed explanations with the examples

In my opinion the homework exercises are a strength of this book. Good number, good selection of different ranges of difficulty.
